Winter Wonderland: 8 Things to do in Ocean County in the Winter

Ocean CountyThe lazy days of winter may be the best time of the year to turn on Netflix and snuggle up in your cozy home with loved ones. But once cabin-fever set in (and the kids start saying, “I’m bored), you may find yourself looking for things to do in Ocean County to get out of the house for a little while. Since we’re a family owned business in Toms River, we thought it would be nice to give you some new ideas for the winter months.

From skating to steaming hot chocolate we’ve rounded up eight of the best winter season activities around town.

Best Winter Season Activities in Ocean County

1. Go Ice Skating

For guaranteed rosy cheeks and frosty noses, head out to the Winding River Skating Center open-air ice rink for some traditional winter skating fun. And if the wind chill is too bitter cold, lace up your skates on the indoor rink. Special Toms River township residential rates apply.

2. Play Bowling

Head on over to Playdrome Lanes on Conifer Street for a night of family-friendly bowling, billiards and arcade games. They even have black light glow bowling, music and laser lights some nights. And for the adults, they are a B.Y.O.B. establishment for beers and wine. Cheers!

3. Get Inspired at the Museum

Looking for an afternoon of learning and inspiration? Visit one of Ocean County’s museums to open the door for your child’s curiosity and encourage new, creative ideas.

4. Visit Jenkinson’s Aquarium

The Jenkinson’s Aquarium is open all year featuring a diverse collection of life from aquatic habitats. Schedule your trip around their feeding schedule and even start your day with the keepers for breakfast so the kids can ask questions and talk about the animals.

5. Go See a Movie

Catch the latest flick at the theater to see a movie in the way it’s meant to be seen (hello, special effects and surround sound). Marquee Cinemas Orchard 10 offers a designated night with special rates for children and seniors.

6. Play Laser Tag

Channel your inner child and go check out Bounce About with the whole family. Dive, Dip, Dodge…in the dodge ball arena or have a blast in their two story Laser Tag Zone.

7. Go Sledding

Snow fall may cause a mess on the roads, but, look on the positive side…it’s sure fun to play in it. Grab your snow sleds or garbage can lids and head on over to the hills. While Ocean County may not have a lot of options for sledding, we still have a couple hidden spots:  Washington St. near the Toms River Country Club, Toms River and Ocean County Park (700 Ocean Ave., Lakewood).

8. Grab a Hot Chocolate

After a ride down a snowy hill, what’s better than thawing out and warming up your taste buds with a steaming cup of chocolate-y goodness? Visit Green Planet Coffee Co. for their selection of creative hot cocoa drinks including peppermint, nutella, raspberry, mocha coconut and milky way (mocha and caramel). Grab us one while you’re there!
